Dimensional Prototypes

Dimensional prototypes make reference to the piece Triangle Above Door (Dreieck aber einer tur, 1969) by the artist Blinky Palermo, which was an edition based on instructions. This edition included a triangular template, a tube of blue paint, a brush and an impression. The instruction was: “With the help of the template, paint a blue triangle on a door and then give the original sheet.” Palermo’s piece undoubtedly has a metaphysical tinge.

In 2015 I started doing exercises in which I subtracted a tip from the triangles: rectangle, isosceles, scalene and equilateral, synthesized by Pythagoras as the elements water, fire, air and earth, respectively. I liked the idea of ​​unbalancing the triangle, since without the tip it was no longer a triangle but a four-sided polygon. The stolen tip formed an isosceles triangle, just like Blinky Palermo’s piece.

Starting from “Triangle Above Door”, I began to imagine the importance of placing the triangular figure on the threshold of a room, as a protection or as a hidden omen under which any person transit again and again. When subtracting the inferior tip of the triangle in question, I joined two dimensions, a material one, with the tangible triangle and an immaterial one with the absent triangle. In addition, the absent triangle contains the possibility of cutting itself endlessly, to infinity.

Therefore, it made sense to build the model of a portal through which you can imagine other dimensions that exist along with the material dimension that we believe we know.

Prototipos dimensionales hacen referencia a la pieza Triangle Above Door (Dreieck aber einer tur, 1969) del artista Blinky Palermo, la cual era una edición basada en instrucciones. Dicha edición incluía una plantilla triangular, un tubo de pintura azul, un pincel y una impresión. Las instrucciones eran: “Con la ayuda de la plantilla, pinta un triángulo azul sobre una puerta y luego regala la hoja original”. La pieza de Palermo tiene indudablemente un tinte metafísico.

En el año 2015 comencé a hacer ejercicios en los que sustraía una punta de los triángulos rectángulo, isósceles, escaleno y equilátero, sintetizados por Pitágoras como agua, fuego, aire y tierra, respectivamente. Me gustaba la idea de desequilibrar el triángulo, ya que sin la punta ya no era un triángulo sino polígono de cuatro lados. La punta sustraída formaba un triángulo isósceles, tal como el de la pieza de Blinky Palermo.

Partiendo de “Triangle Above Door” comencé a imaginar la importancia que tenía el colocar la figura triangular sobre el umbral de una habitación, a manera de protección o de presagio oculto bajo el cual se transita una y otra vez. Al sustraer la punta inferior del triángulo en cuestión unía dos dimensiones, una material con el triángulo tangible y una inmaterial con el triángulo ausente. Además, el triángulo ausente contiene la posibilidad de recortarse interminablemente, al infinito.

Por tanto, tuvo sentido construir el modelo de un portal mediante el cual pueden imaginarse otras dimensiones que existen a la par de la dimensión material que creemos conocer.
